CONFIRMATION PREPARATION

 

Welcome Confirmation Candidates and Parents

2026-2027

 

You are here because your child is ready for the Confirmation Sacrament. We look forward to walking with your child as they prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation!

There are multiple important steps that will need to be taken over the next several months. These steps are outlined below and include the following:

  1. Parent Confirmation Meeting
  2. Mandatory Form Submission
  3. Rite of Enrollment
  4. Mass Reflection Submission
  5. Confirmation Preparation Classes
  6. Confirmation Retreat
  7. Rite of Confirmation

 

Parent Confirmation Meeting

The first step, which is mandatory, is to attend the Parent Meeting at St. John of the Cross Parish on either Sunday, September 27th, at 6:00pm or Tuesday, September 29th, at 7:00pm. If you have not registered for this meeting yet, you can do so by clicking on this link:  Parent Confirmation Meeting Registration

At the Parent meeting, you will be provided with information required for your child to successfully complete the Rite of Confirmation process. We strongly recommend that you bring the following to the Parent Meeting:

 

Mandatory Form Submission

The following mandatory forms must be completed online and/or submitted to the Parish Office by Sunday, October 31st:

  1. Online Confirmation Registration Form OR Hardcopy of Candidate's Confirmation Registration Form
  2. Candidate Covenant Form
  3. Sponsor Form

If you are unable to print these forms, you may pick up hardcopies from the Parish Office before the Parent Meeting.

Rite of Enrollment Ceremony

At the Rite of Enrollment Ceremony, all young people who would like to be considered as Candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation will be called up to the sanctuary and declare their intention to begin the process of preparing for their Confirmation. Potential Confirmation candidates only need to attend one Rite of Enrollment Ceremony. The ceremonies will take place during Holy Mass at St. John of the Cross Parish on the following dates:

  • October 17, 2026: 5:00pm
  • October 18, 2026: 8:00am, 10:00am. 12:00noon, and 4:00pm
  • October 24, 2026: 5:00pm
  • October 25, 2026: 8:00am, 10:00am, 12:00noon, and 4:00pm

 

Mass Reflection Submission

Confirmation candidates are required to attend the Holy Mass each Saturday evening (vigil) or Sunday. Our parish has Mass during the following time each weekend:

  • Saturday, 5:00pm
  • Sunday: 8:00am, 10:00am, 12:00noon, or 4:00pm

While at Holy Mass, Confirmation Candidates must actively participate by completing a reflection on each weekend's Gospel reading and homily. At the end of each month, the reflections can be submitted into the reflection box in the hallway across from the Parish Office.

Confirmation Preparation Classes

Active attendance and participation in Confirmation Preparation Classes is mandatory. All Confirmation Preparation Classes will take place at St. John of the Cross Parish on the following Saturday mornings from 10:00am to 12:00 noon (attendance in the Saturday 9:00am Mass is encouraged, but not mandatory):

  1. November 14, 2026: Jesus - More than a Mere Man
  2. November 28, 2026: Why did Jesus Have to Die?
  3. December 12, 2026: The Comeback of Jesus - or the Story of the Resurrection
  4. January 16, 2027: In Search of the Holy Spirit
  5. January 30, 2027: The Church - a Home for You and Me
  6. February 13, 2027: The Eucharist - the Generosity of God

The Confirmation Preparation Program will be using the YOUCAT Confirmation Book. This book will be provided to you once we receive the Registration Fee. Candidates can participate in the Confirmation Preparation Classes only if we have received the Registration and Covenant forms. We will not be able to assign your child's Confirmation Date until we receive the completed mandatory forms.

 

Confirmation Retreat

All confirmation Candidates must attend one of the Reconciliation and Retreat dates. During the retreat, Confirmation Candidates will attend daily Mass, participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and review what to expect on the date they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The retreat dates are as follows:

  • Saturday, March 6, 2027: 9:00 am to 12:00 noon
  • Saturday, March 13, 2027: 9:00 am to 12:00 noon

 

Rite of Confirmation

In early 2027, each Confirmation Candidate will be assigned a date to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, The Rite of Confirmation will take place at St. John of the Cross Parish on the following evenings at 7:00 pm:

  • Tuesday, April 6, 2027
  • Thursday, April 8, 2027
  • Tuesday, April 13, 2027

Families should arrive by 6:15 pm to register the Candidate.

Importate Note: Only those who have submitted the registration form (online or hardcopy) and submitted all required documents listed on the website will be assigned a Confirmation date.
