On July 9, 2025, Pope Leo XIV will celebrate the first "Mass for the Care of Creation." This special Mass uses a new set of prayers and readings from the Roman Missal, created by two Vatican offices: the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. The new Mass was introduced on July 3 at a press conference at the Vatican.

The private Mass will be celebrated by Pope Leo XIV during his summer vacation with staff members from the "Laudato Sì Village," an education center at his summer residence in Castel Gandolfo. Canadian Cardinal Michael Czerny, who leads the office for human development, said the new Mass offers “liturgical, spiritual and communal support for the care we all need to exercise of nature, our common home. Such service is indeed a great act of faith, hope and charity…This Mass, dedicated to taking care of creation, calls us to be faithful stewards of what God has entrusted to us – not only in daily choices and public policies, but also in our prayer, our worship, and our way of living in the world”. A decree on the release of the Mass for the Care of Creation can be found here.

The release of the Mass for the Care of Creation also coincides with the release of the Holy Father’s Message for the 10th World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation (1 September 2025), titled, Seeds of Peace and Hope. Pope Leo XIV invites the faithful to reflect deeply on ecological conversion and concrete actions in the spirit of Laudato Si’, in union with the Church’s ongoing commitment to the care of our common home.
